Washingto state is not alone in the fact that there is a major drug addiction problem. Recent national statistics have shown that drug abuse is on the rise yet again among adolescents and young adults and it is clear that more help is needed.
About 6,600 people in Washington enter treatment for alcohol addiction each year, and another 10,000 for alcohol with another drug.

2,700 treatment admissions were for cocaine and crack, while more than 5,500 were addicted to heroin and other opiates, including prescription painkillers such as methadone, oxycodone and hydrycodone substances.
More than one-third of the Federally-sentenced defendants in Washington were charged with drug offenses. As a result, there were 37 drug courts in Washington that had been operating for at least two years in April of '07, 6 that had recently been implemented and 10 that were being planned to help battle the addiction crisis in the state.
